It’s a nuisance, that’s for sure. You’re sleeping partner cannot sleep properly if you’re snoring, and you can’t either. When you snore you don’t get a good night’s rest yourself.

Snoring happens when your soft palate and uvula partially block your airway while you’re sleeping.

Sometimes, snoring is caused by sleep apnea, and this is when your airway is completely blocked by the soft palate and uvula, or even your tongue. When people have sleep apnea, they often awaken to take a breath. This interrupts sleep and often makes you tired in the daytime hours. If you think you have sleep apnea, this should be evaluated by a physician.

Sometimes, a common cold, allergies, or enlarged adenoids can cause snoring. It can also be caused by drinking alcohol, or taking certain medications.

But for some people, there seems to be no real reason why snoring occurs. It’s a common problem, one which many people suffer from.

There are many non-surgical remedies, and you might have tried some of these, such as a special pillow to make you sleep on your side, which usually closes the mouth and can prevent mild snoring.

There is also a device called a “snore ball”, which is placed in a pouch on the back of your pajamas. When you go to sleep on your back the ball feels uncomfortable and makes you change position. This can also cause you to wake up too, so it doesn’t always solve your snoring problem.

You can even get a snoring monitor that beeps when you lay on your back. This can be very irritating to those sleeping in the same room however, and the downside is that this too disturbs your sleep, reminding you to change position.

Nasal strips have become popular because they are available without a prescription, and they open the nasal passages. This does provide some relief for people that snore, but it’s not a permanent cure. However, for some people this has solved the snoring problem.

If you’ve tried any of these remedies without much relief, you’ve probably even looked into oral appliances and tongue retraining appliances. However, these are not the most comfortable things to wear.

Excess weight can contribute to snoring because excess skin in the neck area provides more tissue for the air to vibrate against. Losing weight can solve the snoring problem for some people, and can also improve general health, and give you a better night’s sleep. If you feel you are overweight, it would be prudent to try and lose a few pounds and see if this makes a difference in your snoring habits.

If you’ve tried avoiding alcohol, dairy products, fried foods, chocolate etc., and your weight is under control, you’re probably quite frustrated by now that you are still snoring!

Surgical options are available, but these can be invasive and expensive, and they don’t always work as well as people hope they will.

Some of the side effects of surgery are irritation to the tissues and possible scarring, post-operative infections, possible speech defects, swallowing problems, dry mouth, and a whole host of other possible complications. It’s no wonder most people do not want to seek a surgical solution.

If you’ve been evaluated by a physician for snoring, and obstructive sleep apnea has been ruled out, and you’ve tried all the remedies known to man, it may be time to consider other options. It is possible to get a good night’s sleep without snoring, but it may take some research to find what works for you.

According to recent statistics, 30% of those over the age of 30 snore. A shocking 2/3 of all partnered adults say that their partner snores. This results in problems for both parties as they each suffer from not receiving adequate rest. But, don’t lose hope. Even if you or your partner’s snores can compete with a fog horn, there are options. Several safe and effective snoring treatments have been introduced in the past few years. Let’s take a look at some of them. After all, one of them may be the cure you’ve been looking for.
Nasal strips
These are used to open the nasal passageways. The strips adhere to the bridge of your nose and literally pull the nostrils open from the outside, allowing more air flow. These strips are made of a flexible plastic, and they can be found at most any pharmacy, grocery store, or local market.
Throat spray
Often snoring is caused by a vibration in the back of your throat. Snoring sprays are often formulated with natural ingredients. These essential oils lubricate the back of your throat and reduce the vibration. However, be warned. Excessive use of these sprays can actually cause the condition to worsen, resulting in more snoring. Ask your doctor for advice on the appropriate dosage for your condition.
Nasal dilators
These devices are usually made of stainless steel coil or plastic tubes. The device is positioned in your nostrils, pushing your air passageways open. While this sounds painful, many people have found them to be quite comfortable. In fact, many enjoy the extra oxygen so much that they continue to wear the dilator during the day, as they are virtually undetectable.
Anti-snoring pillow
Scientists have discovered that when people sleep in certain positions, their air passages stretch and tighten making it more difficult for them to breathe. This results in snoring. The anti-snoring pillow helps you to maintain a proper sleeping position, thereby relaxing your airways and reducing or eliminating snoring.
Sleep position monitor
This is a device that emits an irritating beeping noise to alert the snoring individual that he/she has shifted into a position where snoring occurs. (This is usually lying on the back for many people.) The goal is to create a new sleeping habit for the snorer, however until the habit is reached, the annoying noise may cause you and your partner to lose more sleep than you were losing before. So, keep this in mind when searching for snoring cures.
Snore ball
You can purchase these, but the same effect can be accomplished with a baseball or tennis ball. The objective is to prevent the snorer from lying on his/her back. When the snorer rolls from his/her side onto his back, he will immediately notice the discomfort of the ball and roll back over. Again, this is a tool used to create an all-new sleeping habit. It works similar to the sleep position monitor, although it is much quieter.
These are just a few quick and easy remedies for snoring. Try them out and see which ones work best for you. If after trying them all, your snoring problem has not improved, you may want to consult a doctor. Your snoring may be caused by a more serious problem and may need professional help.

People who snore can be funny but when you get to sleep with someone who snores loudly every night, it becomes annoying. That is why, it is important to know the ways to cure snoring. Here are the following ways and methods to cure snoring:Breathing exercise – Snoring happens when there is a blockage happening in the breathing passage, particularly at the throat area. And this blockage might be because of a tensed throat, wrong positioned jaw, or stuffed nose. Take several deep breaths in order to relax the throat and make breathing normal again. Decongestants – There are instances wherein the cause of snoring is nasal congestion. Here, the person tends to breathe through his mouth which may trigger snoring. Taking decongestants will free any blockage and relieve the person from snoring. Anti-allergy medications – There are some allergies that result to the enlargement of adenoids. Once the allergy is cured, the snoring usually stops. Exercise and proper diet – If the person is obese, he probably snores. This is because there is fat concentration on the airways that limits the air to go in and out freely. Also, fat formation on the stomach restricts the diaphragm to perform properly. Thus, snoring occurs. In fact, around 40% of the obese population snores. Taking regular exercise and proper diet can reduce the weigh and stop snoring, not to mention other health risks associated with obesity.Change of bed position – There are occasions wherein snoring is the result of wrong sleeping position. Sometimes, sleeping with too many pillows can stretch and narrow the air passage. Use one pillow to avoid it. Also, lying on the back can cause snoring. So, a change in sleeping position can be a good help. Change of lifestyle – Smoking and alcohol can contribute to the onset of snoring. Snoring may be a result of other medical conditions caused by these two. So, to maintain a good and healthy life, the person should stop or reduce smoking and alcohol intake, which in turn can cure snoring. Review medications – Antihistamines, sleeping pills, and other types of medications can worsen snoring. Regular sleeping habits – There are two periods of sleep: the REM sleep where the person experiences frequent dreaming and deep sleep, and the Stage 1 sleep which should only be experienced during falling asleep but can also be experienced several times if the person is sleeping poorly. Both can trigger the development of unstable breathing that can cause snoring. Irregular sleeping can also cause respiratory instability that result to unstable breathing during sleep. Saltwater nasal droops – Nasal congestion caused by mucus can disrupt sleep and can cause snoring. To prevent this, saltwater nasal drops can be used to flush out the mucus. There are over the counter saltwater nasal drops available in drugstores. However, you can also make it on your own. Dissolve ¼ teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of sterilized water. Let the water cool down to body temperature and place it to a nose dropper. However, if snoring is caused by other serious condition such as sleep apnea and enlargement of adenoids and/or tonsils, some surgical procedures like Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (LAUP) and radio frequency tissue ablation (RFTA) or Somnoplasty can be applied. It is important therefore to know the exact cause of snoring before taking any action.

What is snoring?
In short, snoring occurs when a person breathes through their mouth and causes vibrations in the soft palate and uvula. Generally occurring during sleep, snoring comes in many different sounds that occur in men and women, the young and the old and even animals. Snoring in one person can be very slight and soft, while in another the snoring can be loud. The loudness of the sound usually depends upon the person and why they are snoring.
What causes snoring?
When a person sleeps, the muscles not in use begin to relax and the airways will narrow. Snoring occurs when the air is being pushed through a person’s airway. Depending on how forceful the air is being pushed, the loudness of the snore will vary. Men are often louder than women because their necks are generally larger. It is also believed that a hormone produced by women, known as progesterone, works to prevent or significantly reduce instances of snoring. There are many different causes that could lead to snoring. For example, if a person suffers from allergies that could clog the airways or takes medications that dry up the nasal cavities, they may suffer from snoring.
Anything that will clog, irritate, or otherwise block the airway can be a cause for snoring, such as a common cold, the flu, thick nasal tissues, nasal sprays, swollen thyroid gland, tonsillitis, swollen adenoids, large tongue, obesity, alcohol, aging, and smoking cigarettes. All of these can lead to the occurrence of snoring in any person.
Does snoring affect anyone other than the snorer?
In one word, YES! Snoring can affect everyone in the household. When snoring occurs, usually the person doing the snoring has no idea they are doing so. Everyone around them will likely be perfectly aware of it. There are a variety of things that can occur with those who have to live with a snorer. They will likely lose sleep and this can lead to many other emotional disturbances.
Is there a cure for snoring?
There are many different actions a snorer can take to cure snoring. There is surgery available, however, there are a few things to consider before undergoing surgery. For one, the cost of surgery is high and your insurance may not provide coverage for surgery to stop snorong. Another is that some people are more vulnerable to having complications following surgery. There could also be side effects, medication needed, or even the possibility that surgery was pointless and the snoring continued (due to other underlying causes for the snoring).
Some people look towards alternative methods for treating snoring such as medications, devices, exercise, diet, and changing sleep position.
