I have been granted a nose job on the NHS. I want a smaller nose however as this is for cosmetic reasons the surgeon wont do it he will only fix an area where I had trauma and there is a bump by rasping(like sanding) off 2mm, I dont know if this will even make my nose look any smaller so if i should try and get a loan and go private, has anyone had this done but only this as thats all I would be getting. any help would be much appreciated.thanksxx
Hi – re your question
—> If the NHS doctor operates on your nose now and you get a second “cosmetic” nose job later in life, the second job will be a lot more complex and difficult because the surgeon would in that case be operating on tissue which has already been opened. (if he is going to rasp down bone he will have to open up the structure of the nose to get at the bone)
– so, you should try and make sure that any nose job you do get is the final, definitive job. It’s not really fair of this surgeon in my opinion not to oblige you and do some cosmetic work as well while he has your nose “open” and you’re under anesthetic.
So in my opinion you should decline this “incomplete” nose job and save to get the job YOU want done. I think after going through the stress of surgery and the pain of recovery you are not going to be very happy when you see pretty much the same nose if the size is what principally bothers you.
Rasping down a small protrusion of bone on the nasal bridge will not make the nose look neater – it will just get rid of that one feature. Look at Ashlee Simpson’s nose job – her surgeon did a HELL of a lot more than just rasp down her bridge. He neatened her tip, made it narrower etc. And it’s not like that was advanced stuff – it’s supposed to be the basics of a nose job.
So I wouldn’t let a surgeon touch you unless he has agreed to act according to your wishes. Remember any surgeon that you go to – make sure you see lots of pictures of his work on noses before you go ahead with him to make sure he’s good.
I don’t know if this answer will help but I wish you lots of luck.
If you really want a cosmetic surgery for your nose, go ahead and try to go private. It´s a surgery, and has all the risks of any surgery (means it includes possible infection- death even if it´s a rare occurence, but still) so if you can fix it in one OP, don´t do it in two OPs (as in: I´ll do this now, and later I´ll do that…) Also, know that nose surgery is painful (sorry…) Good luck.
never had a nose job and dont know much about it but the whole rasping part sends shivers down my spine…..i picture them taking a sanding machine thingy and using it on my nose…..gross
